Germany Elects Two Transgender Women To New Parliament
Girls continue to run the world, as Germany made history by electing two transgender women to Parliament (known as the Bundestag), Tessa Ganserer and Nyke Slawik. In Germany, it is illegal to change your name and gender on identity documents unless you go through psychological evaluation. Ganserer refused to do this, and had to run under her male name. There has only ever been one other transgender member of the Bundestag, but he did not come out as a trans man until after his term.
