Since the LGBTQ+ rights movement started, our community has been active in politics. Elaine Noble was the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate elected to a state-level position when she joined the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1974. Harvey Milk made headlines in 1978 when he was elected. Now in the past year the US has seen over 1,000 LGBTQ+ individuals elected to office, our issues are not only getting a spotlight we are positioned to finally help the most marginalized in our community.
