Queer News Tonight has previously reported on the historic outbreak of Meningitis among gay and bisexual men in Florida. As the scope of post-pride month infection spread becomes more apparent, the Centers of Disease Control are encouraging men who have sex with other men who are traveling or live in Florida to get a meningococcal vaccine. Epidemiologist Dr. Sam Crowe, PhD, MPH, said in a statement, “Meningococcal disease is serious and can be deadly. But we have a powerful tool to help save lives -- we encourage all gay and bisexual men who live in Florida to get vaccinated, and those traveling to Florida should talk with their healthcare provider about getting a MenACWY vaccine." Symptoms include high fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting, and a dark purple rash. The disease can cause permanent health conditions or even death.
