Drag is a form of gender-bending performance art mainly for performing and entertainment purposes. Drag is also gender expression and celebrating 2 Spirit and LGBTQIA+ pride.
Drag is not new, drag was prevalent in ancient Greece and in the Shakespearean era. After the famous 1969 #Stonewall riots in New York City through the early 1990s, gay pride and gay culture were more widely recognized, and so was drag culture. Films like Paris Is Burning, and The Birdcage helped introduce drag to new audiences. Rupaul and World of Wonder made it all mainstream. Now I’m obsessed with Indigenous Drag Artists like my next guest.
Let’s welcome Lady Shug! Shug is an indigenous two-spirit queer person. Last week we celebrated Non-Binary Awareness week and International Non-Binary Person’s Day, and I just had to bring this nationally (and internationally) known Two-Spirit icon to the FayWhat Show!
